What is Periodontology? 

Periodontology is a branch of dentistry which examines teeth and tissues around the teeth in the case of health and disease and aims to protect acquired health after diagnosis and treatment.

The Indications of Gingival Disease

  • Continuous bad breath

Gum Recession

There are several reasons of gum recession:

Trauma, wrong brushing teeth duration and frequency, bacterial plaque, tartar and bad habits (using tooth pick frequently, nail-biting, pencil-biting etc.) cause gum recessions.

The Treatment of Gingival Diseases

In the early phase of gingival disease, treatment includes cleaning the plaques and tartars on the teeth. This operation provides removing bacterias and irritants which cause gingival infection. This treatment generally is sufficient for adaptation of the gum to teeth again. Following this operations, daily effective oral care is important.

In the advanced cases, surgical treatment may be necessary.

The Treatment Types of Gingival Diseases

1. Scaling

It means scaling the tartars.

Tartars is scaled by a dentist.

It is necessary to go to a dentist semi-annually.

2. Subgingival Curettage

It means a curettage under under anesthesia

This operation is made with hand tools called curettes and infected tissues and additions are removed.

3. The Flap Operation

It is a operation on gingival under the local anesthesia.

This operation lasts about an hour and every time it is applied to half-maxilla (6-7 teeth).
